Well, it has come to the point that all athletes are reaching for their career. After 25 years in the Champions League and 21 years in the national team, it’s finally time for shoes to go on the shelf. At such a turning point, I would like to thank everyone who has supported my back through sweet and sweet. Colleagues, coaches, doctors, physiotherapists, team leaders, supporters and all others, including opponents. Last but not least, I would like to thank my family for their invaluable support and especially my wife and children. Thora, Inna, Jona, and Jason, you have made it worthwhile to stand in this all these years. The handball has opened up to me a world that few people can afford, and I never imagined I would have to experience it when I was a young boy in Grotto. What survives are the memories, both the sweet and the hurt, and the people I have met along the way.akk Thanks to me, Gudjon Valur Well, it is come to that time in my career that all athletes eventually reach. After 25 years at the senior level and 21 years in the national team, I’ve decided to retire. At this point in my life I would like to thank all of those who have stood by me through thick and thin. Teammates, coaches, doctors, physios, team managers, supporters and all the others, including opponents. Last but not least I would like to thank my family, especially my wife and children. Thora, Inna, Jona and Jason, you have made this all worthwhile all these years. Handball has opened a world to me few have had the privilege of experience. What remains are the memories, the sweet and the sour, and the people I’ve met along the way.❤️ Thanks, Guðjón Valur

Last played Sigurdsson at Paris St. Germain, the club is explained to Meister by season break due to the Corona crisis.

Meister with Kiel and the Lions

Title also held Sigurdsson in Iceland, Spain, Denmark and Germany. In the Bundesliga, the left outs in 2013 and 2014 celebrated with THW Kiel in 2017 with the Rhine-Neckar Lions. Add to that several other Cup victories, the Champions League triumph with the FC Barcelona 2015 and a silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. In 2018 he was crowned the only world record holder at Länderspieltore.

“Machine – thank you for everything! For everything, you were made for the handball sport,” wrote Filip Jicha, former teammate of Sigurdsson and new master coach of THW Kiel, at least on Instagram. Many more stars like Silvio Heinevetter, Nikola Karabatic or Sander Sagosen named Sigurdsson as “Legend”.
