KRAKOW (Dagbladet): The USA handball team beat Morocco 28-27 on Friday night in their opening game in the handball World Cup.
It is the country’s first victory in a handball World Cup, after losing 25 straight matches. The players celebrated wildly when the victory was a fact.
The TV profile is steepening
TV 2’s handball expert Bent Svele says channels that it is a huge victory for both the USA and handball.
The team is coached by Norway’s former national team manager Swede Robert Hedin. After Norway itself ran over North Macedonia in its match, he received congratulations from old friends.
– That is impressive. I have no idea about Morocco’s level, but it is nice for Robert Hedin, says Norway’s current national team manager Jonas Wille.
The two met on the bench when Norway won superiorly 43-26 in a warm-up game in Trondheim last week. Norway’s captain Christian O’Sullivan is surprised when Dagbladet tells him the news.
Reacts: – Unlucky
– No, I didn’t see that one coming. But I also don’t know Morocco very well, and know that the USA did not have their best game against us. It’s fun to hear and fun for Robert, smiles O’Sullivan, who himself made his debut in the national team under Hedin’s management.
The match played in Swedish Jönköping was of the dramatic kind. Even coach Hedin was sent off a few minutes before the end for pressing the time out button while Morocco had the ball.
Rage against the WC regime
– I was going to take a timeout, but then we lose the ball. Then they think that there will be sabotage against the other team. Then it became a red card, which became a blue card. I don’t think that has ever happened before, so it’s just to be sorry, he explains himself TV 2.
In addition to Morocco, the Americans are in a group with Egypt and Croatia. Friday’s win means they will probably get to play in the main round which starts next week.
