This Tuesday, March 23, Usam Nîmes is playing its round of 16 first leg of the European League in Chekhov, a city of 70,000 inhabitants located 70 km from Moscow.
The last time Usam played a European Cup finals match was in 1994 (elimination in the round of 16 of the Cup Winners’ Cup by Zagreb). This round of 16 is therefore an event for the Gard club, which challenges Medvedi Tchekhov in a confrontation that promises to be undecided.
Beaten in Nantes on Saturday in the league (31-27), Nîmes has all its living forces with the exception of Poyet (care after his Achilles tendon rupture) and perhaps Sanad, his top scorer hit in the heel in Loire -Atlantic.
“Be patient, but not passive”
“Tchekhov is a special team, which defends in 1-5 and attacks for a long time, which keeps the ball a lot, explained coach Franck Maurice to his players. We will have to be patient. But patient does not mean passive, “warned the coach.
This first leg kicks off at 5 p.m. in France, at 7 p.m. in Russia.
