In the championship round of the Youth Bundesliga, the U19 of the Handball Sport Verein Hamburg suffered a home defeat for the first time because they had to admit defeat to SC DHfK Leipzig. The U21 started their game at TSV Kronshagen the next day with mixed results, but thanks to a strong comeback they managed to gain two more points.

U19 starts weakly and gets back into the game by half time

From the kick-off, the U19 of the Handball Sport Verein Hamburg had a difficult time in the championship round game of the Youth Bundesliga against SC DHfK Leipzig. Right from the start, the Leipzig team went on a 4-0 run and fielded the team of youth coordinator and coach Sven Rusbült right in front of question marks. However, as the first half progressed, the HSVH U19s picked themselves up again and found their way into the game thanks to a stronger defense. The Hanseatic League even equalized in the 21st minute (7:7). Due to countless missed throws on both sides, the score remained at 9 goals per team until the half-time whistle, so the score was 9:9.

HSVH U19s cannot reward themselves with points in the second half

The U19 of the Handball Sport Club Hamburg came out of halftime with the clear motto of making better use of their own chances, avoiding unnecessary mistakes and appearing stronger in defense. The HSVH team only managed this temporarily, so that the Leipzig team was able to pull away again in the course of the second half. In the meantime, SC DHfK found its own game again and again and was able to pull away from the Hanseatic League goal by goal. Due to a total of four missed seven-meter penalties and the continued mixed use of opportunities, the HSVH U19 ultimately had to admit defeat 21:25 and thus suffered their first home defeat of the season.

Hamburg U21 in the first half with potential for improvement

In Kronshagen, the U21 of the Handball Sport Club Hamburg went into the game with great enthusiasm. Both HSVH and TSV Kronshagen wanted to secure two points. In the first ten minutes the game was very even and neither team was able to gain a clear advantage. But then TSV Kronshagen showed more presence in defense and made things a little more difficult for the team of coach Stefan Schröder and his assistant coach Lukas Paetzel. The hosts also played with more speed and cleverness in attack. As a result, the score at the break was 16:21 from the HSVH team’s perspective.

HSVH’s comeback leads to an away win in Kronshagen

In the second half, the Hamburg boys were finally able to exploit their full potential. In defense, the HSVH team found its strong formation and in attack they repeatedly scored easy goals. Thanks to numerous goals from wingers Levin Unbehaun and Alexander Hartwig, the Hamburg U21s were able to equalize in the 46th minute. From then on, the leadership changed regularly between the teams. In the last five minutes, however, the hosts TSV Kronshagen didn’t score any more goals and HSVH left winger Alexander Hartwig ensured the narrow but deserved victory for his colors. With a 34:32 win and two points, the Hanseatic team then set off again towards Hamburg.
