Mikkel Hansen has played 266 international matches and scored 1350 goals for Denmark.
But soon the successful career with WC, Olympic and EC gold is over.
The Olympics in Paris this summer will be the 37-year-old’s last championship, he announced at a press conference today.
– I feel that this summer is the perfect time to put the shoes on the shelf. I am proud of what I have achieved as a player. I will always have a great love for the sport, he says.
The world’s best for three years
The Dane has struggled with an injury recently and has a contract with Aalborg over next season. But it is unclear whether he will be ready for play in the playoffs, which begin this weekend.
Hansen was named the world’s best player in 2011, 2015 and 2018.
