Once again, it’s time for matches in the country’s highest men’s league. Today Lugi HF headed up to Västergötland to take on Alingsås HK in the first round of the Handball League.
Last season’s top scorer Mathias Pedersen will not play in the opening match, as he has a broken finger. At the same time, Lugi has lost many profiles and what remains are a bunch of young players.
The match started relatively evenly and there were some first-time nerves in both teams. Already in the first seven minutes, the teams together had scraped together three expulsions.
Lugi had an almost ten-minute goal drought and from that Alingsås was able to take control of the match, 2–2 soon became 5–2. The tempo of the match varied and the match was characterized by both slow attacking play and quick counterattacks.
The home team’s goalkeeper Rickard Frisk and the away team’s Victor Hedberg each had five saves when they went to the halftime break. The top scorer of the half was Max Granlund in Alingsås with five hits.
Half time score: 14–11
The second half began with continued advantage for Alingsås, 14-11 soon became 16-11. There was a hail of expulsions for the away team and for a period the team played with only three outfield players.
Lugi continued to have difficulty scoring and Alingsås was then able to make a move, 19–15 soon became 23–15. With ten minutes remaining, the home team led with seven balls and Max Granlund continued to bomb goals from nine meters. Mathias Pedersen’s absence did not prevent the home team from winning the opening match.
Final score: 29–24
