In the handball district of Rastatt, games are suspended due to the corona. Some handball players from Mittelbaden can, however, continue to indulge their passion at a higher level. For example goalkeeper Zoe Ludwig from Helmlingen, who plays in the Bundesliga for HL Buchholz 08-Rosengarten, Ebersteinburger Anika Henschel (TuS Lintfort) or Laetitia Quist from Sandweier (formerly SG Steinbach / Kappelwindeck, now TuS Metzingen / TG Nürtingen ).

A wish has to prove itself earlier than expected

Henschel and Quist and their second division teams recently met two other athletes from the district who are fighting for points at HSG Freiburg in the second division, namely Kappelwindeckerin Simone Falk and Svenja Wunsch from Sandweier. At SG Steinbach / Kappelwindeck, both players laid the foundation for the leap into Bundesliga handball. Falk is now in his second year in Breisgau, and goalkeeper Wunsch joined the HSG before this season.

The time of probation came earlier than expected for the 20-year-old keeper. “I should actually be slowly brought up to the level of the Bundesliga. After Lena Fischer’s injury, everything went much faster than expected, ”says the student teacher. And she is immediately praised by her team-mate Simone Falk: “Svenja does an excellent job.”

Falk scores four times with the leaders

Falk brings her qualities to the traditional left wing position. Most recently she met four times in a guest appearance at leaders Füchse Berlin, but could not prevent the 29:32 defeat. Nevertheless, the Middle Baden duo started the long journey home from the capital to Baden with a good feeling.

“It might have been even more possible, but sometimes we make life difficult for ourselves,” says 25-year-old Falk, who now hopes, like wish, that she will soon improve her account against supposedly easier opponents and aim for an advance into midfield can be. With 3:13 points, the HSG Freiburg is in twelfth place in the table, ahead of the bottom line Werder Bremen (1:13) and the penultimate HC Rödertal (2:12).

We already know that it is a privilege to be able to play right now.

The last chance to score points this year is on Saturday in the home game against HC Leipzig, followed by the EM break before the first appearance in 2021 at home against Kirchhof on January 2 – if the Corona regulations allow. “We already know that it is a privilege to be able to play at the moment and of course we also discuss the topic within the team. That will certainly be with us for longer. But we just want to make the best of the situation, ”said Falk.

Flashback: There was nothing to inherit for the HSG handball players in the games against their district colleagues. HSG lost against Henschels Lintfort at home with 26:29, against TG Nürtingen, for whom Quist has a second game right, they lost 23:28. The junior national player with the main engagement at the Bundesliga club TuS Metzingen was the outstanding Nürtingen player with eight goals.

Training sessions with the competitor at home

But that by no means caused bad blood among the opponents. “It has developed really well,” says Falk, praising the top German talent. “That was okay, so why should she have held back?” Says Wunsch, who kept herself fit with her friend Laetitia Quist during the spring lockdown at home in Sandweier. Repetition not excluded.
