There will be a fundamental change in the Handball Bundesliga next season. This was confirmed by Managing Director Frank Bohmann.
The measure has not yet been finally decided, but the outstanding hurdle – at the general meeting on 5./6. It must be included in the statutes by July – until implementation it is only a formal one.
“But I think it’s impossible for the application to fail, because we’ve already coordinated with all the clubs and we’re not facing any opposition,” emphasized Bohmann.
However, the implementation of the video evidence will differ from that in German football. So there will be no impartial round like the “Kölner Keller”. Only the referees on the field have the opportunity to watch explosive scenes again.
These are precisely defined: disqualification, serious unfair actions, conflicts on the pitch, game-changing situations in the last 30 seconds and goal/no goal within the game time.
The challenge – a way for coaches to have situations checked – that will be introduced in the Champions League next season has not yet been planned. “We’ll look at that and then decide whether we’ll do it the season after next,” explained Bohmann.
In other handball competitions such as the World Cup or the European Championship, the use of video evidence has so far proven its worth.
