Many long away trips to Lower Saxony and Hesse await the SGSH in the new season. There are no derbies against TuS Ferndorf again.
Schalksmühle – For a year, the third division handball team SGSH Dragons was able to enjoy a purely western season with trips exclusively within their own federal state. Now it’s back to the north and east: The destinations in the new season are Hildesheim, Fredenbeck, Wilhelmshaven, Aurich, Grossenheidorn, Baunatal or Melsungen. The new North-West season brings together eight teams from North Rhine-Westphalia with six representatives from Lower Saxony and two teams from Hesse. A colorful mixture that the German Handball Association published on Wednesday.
NRW is divided in two – as in the previous season, the border runs through the middle of the Lenne-Sieg handball district. There will be no derbies between TuS Ferndorf and SGSH again. The Kreuztaler landed in the South-West squadron, as did the HSG Krefeld, the Bergische Panther, Longerich and Opladen. In short: The SGSH no longer meets ex-coach Mark Schmetz and his Krefelders, nor the Panthers from Burscheid – they were the closest opponent last season, almost a derby.
“Really emotional derbies are no longer there,” says SGSH chairman Jan Schriever. A neighborhood duel is only waiting against VfL Gummersbach II, but they usually don’t have a large following. In addition: Ahlen, Augustdorf, Altenhagen, Nordhemmern, Spenge Emsdetten – the league rivals of the SGSH from NRW are not exactly classic neighbors. It will be a game year of long away trips.
SGSH: Hildesheim and Baunatal instead of Krefeld and Ferndorf
“Two hearts are beating in my chest,” says Jan Schriever with a view to this division of the relay, “on the one hand, it could have hit us harder in sporting terms. In this season it should be possible to achieve our goal for the season – a single-digit place in the table and early planning security. On the other hand, it will be an expensive season because there are a lot of very long away trips and on the other hand there are practically no derbies where you can plan a full hall.
The SGSH chairman positively emphasizes the aspect that it is interesting to compete with many unknown opponents. Nevertheless, a showdown with TuS Ferndorf would have been even nicer and more interesting.
