Handanovic joins Bordon: 382 appearances for Inter

MILAN – The game against Cagliari was the 382nd appearance of Samir Handanovic with the Inter shirt. Handanovic, in his ninth season with the Nerazzurri, surpassed the 500-game mark in Serie A last February, becoming the foreign goalkeeper with the most matches in Italian league history. BORDON, 382 APPEARANCES AND UNBEATABLE RECORD

The first appearance of Ivano Bordon (born 1951) wearing the Inter shirt was on November 8, 1970, in a derby won by Milan: he replaced the injured Vieri at 1-0 and scored the first goal of his career for Rivera, from a penalty. Bordon’s debut in the first team coincided with the Scudetto: 9 appearances in 1970/71. His consecration came in the 1971-1972 Champions League, in the controversial clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bordon became the hero of Berlin: a scoreless draw, a stopped penalty and an incredible number of decisive interventions, which earned him the nickname Sandro Mazzola gave him: “Pallottola”.

Bordon was with Inter from 1970 to 1983. In the record, in addition to the 1971 Viareggio Tournament, 2 League titles and 2 Italian Cups. The second tricolor with the Nerazzurri came in the 1979-1980 season, when Bordon set the unbeaten record for an Inter goalkeeper: he did not concede a goal for 686 consecutive minutes, between matchdays 4 and 11.

To 382 games with Inter, and before moving to Sampdoria, he added 7 participations in “alternative” tournaments: 4 in the Anglo-Italian Cup and 3 in the “Armando Picchi” National League Trophy.

Bordon has been on top of the world twice: in 1982 as a player, without playing, as a backup for Dino Zoff at the World Cup, and in 2006, on Marcello Lippi’s coaching staff during Italy’s success in Germany.
