Hand grenade thrown in a bar: the perpetrator is on the screen

Police on Monday released images to Bureau Brabant of the man who threw a hand grenade at Coffeeshop Caza on the Gasthuisring in Tilburg in October. This culprit is still being sought.

The hand grenade was thrown at the bar in the middle of the night on October 27th. This was later moved by a man. He put the explosives in his bag and carried it to a parking space on the Jan Heijnsstraat. Officers stopped him there and confiscated his purse.

The man who threw the grenade was caught on camera. It can be seen that he, dressed in black clothes, first walks past the bar. He disappears from view and then reappears.

The tape blocks the ignition
When he stands in front of the bar, it can be seen that the man is holding something in his hands. He fiddles with it a bit and then walks off again. “It doesn’t work right away, but it looks like it wants to extract something. Maybe the hand grenade pin,” police said. Finally he throws the hand grenade at the door and the man runs away.

The hand grenade did not go off because a piece of tape blocked the ignition. “Otherwise the consequences would have been incalculable. It is an explosive that could have cost human lives”.

Pictures of a witness can also be seen on Monday’s investigative programme. It concerns someone who, immediately after the grenade is thrown, passes in front of the bar. He contacted the security guards. Police are still looking for this witness.

Cafeteria closed
It is still unclear why the grenade was thrown at the bar. In March, the door to the cafeteria was also hit. Mayor Theo Weterings dropped the case for three months after the hand grenade was found. “Public order and security are compromised to such an extent that we have to act,” the mayor said at the time.
