Hana Heřmánková, former TV announcer and wife of actor Karel Heřmánek, who is celebrating her 60th birthday, always has a smile on her face and optimism. At the same time, he carries a great pain in his heart, which he still copes with today.
Hana Heřmánková had a sister, Dana Vávrová, four years younger, who became a star at the age of eleven. And that’s thanks to the fairy-tale film Let the spirits live, in which she portrayed the character of Leontýnka.
They had a beautiful relationship and were emotionally fixated on each other. Although Dana married in Germany, where she started a family, they remained in regular contact. However, Dana Vávrová’s life ended prematurely. She succumbed to cancer at only forty-one.

“When the doctors found out she was sick, I went to see her more often. The further I get from it, the more I realize how awfully strong she was. It’s admirable how she fought, and I’m not sure that I could have done something like that, that I would have found that kind of strength in myself. She didn’t give up until the last moment, she endured all the hardships and sufferings, she didn’t want to leave,” Hana Heřmánková confided to ONA DNES magazine.

She got cancer after she quit smoking
Unfortunately, the insidious disease was beyond her strength. “In the end it was really terrible, but she still fought, tried everything. Also alternative treatment and also one completely new drug that has good results in some forms of the disease. Dana was always tough in life. Unfortunately, her illness was the same,” Heřmánková sighed.
It is said that Dana had an explanation for the fact that she fell ill with cancer. “She commented on it in a peculiar way. She said it all started when she finally quit smoking. That’s when her body rebelled,” described Heřmánková.

A recipe for eternal beauty
Vávrová had three daughters who devotedly took care of her until the last moment. “They are very good girls and all three of them took great care of her. Terezka interrupted her law studies in England for a year in order to devote herself to it. By the end, Dana was already home, and Terezka had even learned to give her injections. She was the best in her year in college. After all that, she decided to leave law and go study medicine,” revealed Hana Heřmánková, who still maintains a youthful appearance even in her sixties.
You just won’t see her frowning and in a bad mood. She is constantly adorned with a smile from ear to ear and optimism. According to her, this is also one of the recipes that contributes to a woman’s beauty. “Satisfaction, looking forward to every day, going out into nature, sleeping a lot and wearing nice lipstick,” she names what she is guided by throughout her life.
