Court “lack of explanation for reason and need for arrest”
On the 30th, the managing directors Kang Jin-goo and Choi Young-min of the YouTube media “Citizen Media The Exploration” (hereinafter referred to as The Exploration), accused of breaking into the residence of Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon, fled the arrest crisis.
Seoul Central District Court judge Kim Se-yong, who is in charge of the warrants, rejected the arrest warrant, saying, “There is no sufficient reason and necessity for the arrest” after questioning the suspect before arresting Kang the day before.
As for CEO Choi, he also revealed the reason for the dismissal, saying, “The reason for the arrest and the call for necessity are somewhat lacking.”
On the 27th of last month, they are accused of breaking into the front door through the common entrance of an apartment in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where Minister Han lives (invasion of a common residence under the Punishment of Violence Act).
The Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Team of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has conducted a search and seizure of The Tamsa’s offices in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province and the residences of its officials three times since the 7th of this month, and requested arrest warrants on the 26th.
Representative Kang attended the warrant review in the afternoon of the previous day and said, “In examining the prosecution’s warrant request, the act of visiting Minister Han’s apartment was by no means recognized as a cover activity.”
