Hams ultimately not contaminated with listeriosis

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) retracted on Monday after warning the population last week not to eat ham knives from the company Les Viandes biological de Charlevoix potentially contaminated with listeriosis.

On February 13, the MAPAQ indicated that the “smoked ham” sold by the Saint-Urbain company, in Charlevoix, could be contaminated with the bacteria listeria monocytogenes.

“Following an additional analysis and in the light of the results obtained, the Department advises the public that the product can be consumed safely,” said MAPAQ on Monday.

The meat was offered in 500 gram format. The recalled lot was marked with number 599 and “Best before: 19 FEB”.

The results of this second test did not surprise Les Viandes biological de Charlevoix, which was convinced of the harmlessness of its products. The company has also told the QMI Agency that it “probably” will take legal action against MAPAQ for reputation damage.
