“Hampyeong-Gun’s Official Position on Relocating Gwangju Military Airport”

【 Anchorment 】
For the first time, Hampyeong-gun has officially announced its position in favor of relocating the Gwangju military airport.

Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jeong and South Jeolla Province Governor Kim Young-rok are expected to meet soon to discuss the relocation of the military/civil airport.

Hampyeong-gun Lee Sang-ik officially announced his position on the relocation of Gwangju Military Airport through a statement.

County Mayor Lee emphasized that Hampyeong’s birth rate last year was only 75, and that it was in a desperate crisis.

– “When the Gwangju Military Airport is built in Hampyeong, we will promote a groundbreaking regional growth engine business through a large-scale population influx.”

In addition, the integration with Gwangju, which is claimed by some, is difficult to realize due to procedures.

The poll, which was planned for next month, has been postponed to July-August to provide sufficient information to residents.

As the position in favor of the military airport in Hampyeong-gun was announced, the project to relocate the military and civilian airports seems to be getting more and more complicated.

In Muan, which initially fiercely opposed the relocation of the military airport, the controversy is heating up as opinions in favor have recently begun to emerge.

Jeonnam Province and Gwangju City also show a clear difference in their stance on relocating the airport.

Jeonnam-do is in a position to keep the promise at the time of the 7th civil election to relocate the civilian airport to Muan Airport first, while Gwangju City is in a position that it is difficult to discuss the military and private airports separately.

– “Because the civil airport is leased to the military airport, the military airport and the private airport are two sides of the same coin. I think you should look at it this way.”

Gwangju and Jeonnam mayors and provincial governors were expected to hold a meeting on the relocation of the airport on the 10th, but it is unknown whether it will be held as it has not yet been decided whether or not to draw up an agreement.

Although the Special Act on Military Airport Relocation has been passed, which contains the grounds for government support, the calculation method for each local government is becoming more complicated with regard to the method and timing of relocation of the military airport and the private airport.
