Hammer Throw, Sara Fantini’s Disappointment: “I Wasn’t Myself”

With her third failed attempt, Sara Fantini is officially eliminated from the hammer throw final. She finishes in last place.

During the qualifications for the finals, the athlete had almost reached 73 meters, reaching 72.40 meters. In 2017, she won her first Italian title, later she won the bronze at the European Championships and the gold medal in Rome, which led her directly to the qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I think it was the worst race I’ve ever done and this really shocks me”, Sara Fantini doesn’t mince words with herself. She then adds: “Today I didn’t feel like myself, unfortunately it can happen. It also happens to athletes who are much stronger than me. Sport is also this, you learn above all from this. I’m sorry because the approach to these Olympics was perfect, even better than that of the Europeans. In qualifying I felt quite good, even if not very good. In this final, however, already in the practice throws I felt that something was wrong, in the race it went even worse”.
