In March, Anton Kralj signed a short-term contract with Hammarby. It runs until the end of July. But Bajen has an option to activate an option in the contract that would extend it by a year and a half.
What will happen to the 25-year-old is still unclear, the club’s interim sports director Mikael Hjelmberg tells Fotbollskanalen. After Kralj’s starting debut against Sirius on Sunday, Hjelmberg says:
– He has a contract until July. We are going to sit down with Anton to talk about the future.
– He has done well in training and he had a good match now. We will sit down with him to talk together about how to take it further.
Is there an option?
– Yes it is true. We need to make a decision before a certain date, and you could say that it is in the near future.
Coach Marti Cifuentes said at the post-match press conference that the left-back put in a “fantastic” performance against Sirius, who Bajen defeated 2-1. Kralj himself is also satisfied with his performance
– It was fun, of course. I’ve been struggling for a few weeks. I’ve been injured and come back to this now. It was nice to start and I think I did well, says Kralj.
– After the break, when we came back, it felt good in training. I have shown the front feet and done well, I think. Now I am satisfied with the effort. It was nice that my body held up and that I was able to play 90 minutes. It’s been a long time since I did that.
The former Malmö FF and Degerfors player does not know what will happen with the expiring contract.
– I don’t really have anything to say. I fight on and try to do it as well as possible. I think I showed in this match that I’m up to par. We’ll see in the future how it turns out.
When will the club give notice?
– I don’t actually know that. There hasn’t been much talk so far, so we’ll see in the coming days.
However, Kralj is clear about one thing: he wants to stay in Bajen.
– Yes absolutely. I enjoy the club very much. Everyone takes good care of me. I see great potential both in the club and myself. So I really want to stay.
Do you know if there are other options if there would not be a continuation with Hammarby?
– Right now I’m just focusing on Hammarby and want to stay. So I haven’t taken it up with my agent. This is where I want to be.
What’s it like not knowing what’s going to happen?
– Of course I walk around and think about it, but I can only focus on my own and doing it as well as possible. Then others can take care of the rest, replies Kralj.
Previously, Kralj has made five appearances in the Allsvenskan for Hammarby.
