Hammarby defeated Västerås

STOCKHOLM. On Monday, Hammarby took on Västerås SK at Tele2 Arena.
Led by team captain Nahir Besara, Bajen was able to salvage three important points.
The final score was 2-1.

On Monday, the sixth round of the Allsvenskan ended when Västerås SK visited Hammarby at Tele2 arena. A battle between two green and white teams, where visiting Västerås for the day however played in black and green away address.

Hammarby came from a tough loss away to Halmstads BK. VSK took the first point of the season when the newcomers beat Mjällby AIF at home in the last round.

Bajen made several changes to the starting eleven compared to last time. Pavle Vagic, Fredrik Hammar, Montader Madjed and Deniz Gül were all left out of the eleven. In addition, Jusef Erabi is injured and will miss the entire spring season.

It was the visitors Västerås who got the first goal chance of the match when Patric Åslund pushed the ball out to the right outside the penalty area. There, Simon Gefvert pulled in from distance but the ball slipped a bit over.

Hammarby slowly ate into the first half and before the quarter was played would get two great opportunities. The first was a free kick that Nahir Besara hit with deadly precision. However, Västerås goalkeeper Johan Brattberg was able to steer the ball into the corner. The corner also created the mess around Brattberg’s goal and danced on the goal line before VSK could clear it away.

Hammarby continued to put a lot of pressure on Västerås and that would also pay dividends. In the 19th minute of the match, Besara fired a shot from distance that hit the post perfectly. The ensuing cross was then lifted in to land perfectly on the forehead of Abdelrahman Boudah who was unmarked to head in 1-0 for the home side.

After the lead goal, Hammarby’s intense pressure calmed down a bit. Västerås could instead rest with the ball in possession, however without creating any real danger.

However, the first half did not offer any more great opportunities and Bajen could take a break with an odd-goal lead, 1-0.

Abdelrahman Boudah had the following to say about his goal to Discovery during the break:

– It’s nice, it was a long time ago. I saw Hampus (Skoglund) have the ball and we have practiced on those runs. Hampus also knows where we should run, so it came there. It went crazy fast. I just saw that Hampus had the ball and I thought I would do what we have been practicing.

In the second half, Hammarby continued to drum up. The payoff wouldn’t wait this time either when Bajen picked up the pace. The team’s team captain Nahir Besara was able to intercept a ball at the height of the penalty area line and easily place 2-0 behind Johan Brattberg in the VSK goal.

However, Västerås did not lose heart so easily. Just four minutes after Hammarby’s 2-0 goal, Simon Gefvert was able to push in a return for Västerås and it was a match again at Tele2 Arena.

However, the away team never came closer than a reduction and the last twenty minutes of the match were relatively uneventful. Hammarby safely controlled home three important points.

For Hammarby, Värnamo awaits in the next round, also at home. Västerås hosts Djurgården at home.
