Two teams in the bottom half of the Allsvenskan table collided on Sunday, when Sirius took on Hammarby at Studenternas in Uppsala.
Bajen created the first big danger of the match. Because in the eighth minute, Viktor Djukanovic swung in from the left wing and was close to screwing in 1-0 in the far corner. But the finish went narrowly off the post.
In the 26th minute, Sirius then came close to taking the lead. Joakim Persson came into action after a deep pass. But Oliver Dovin saved. On the return, Aron Bjarnason then appeared but his finishing attempt was cleared away near the goal line.
1-0 instead came in the 37th minute. And it was Hammarby who netted. Nahir Besara found Jusef Erabi in the box, after which the forward turned around and placed the ball into the net.
Five minutes later, Sirius equalised. Joakim Persson forced Dovin into a great save after a pass from André Alsanati and then Tashreeq Matthews knocked in 1-1 on the return.
In a half-time interview with Discovery+, Bajen’s goalscorer Jusef Erabi said he was pleased with much of the team’s performance in the first half, but he also expressed frustration with the goal conceded.
– It’s so damn dirty. It’s so fucking unnecessary. We let Sirius back into the game. We were in full control, especially after our goal. It destroyed our momentum, Erabi said.
However, Hammarby gained new energy in the second half, when they went for a 2-1 goal. It also came in the 74th minute when midfielder Fredrik Hammar headed in 2-1 on a cross from the right wing. The goal is his first in the green and white A team shirt.
Before that, Edvin Kurtulus and Jusef Erabi had burned good chances for Bajen.
The away team held close after Hammar’s goal and won the match 2-1. The green and whites are tenth in a limping table. They have 13 points up to a place in Europe and nine points down to qualification.
– We started the first half very energetically. We deservedly took the lead even though we conceded unnecessary goalscoring chances. Then we scored a goal and yes, after that we have to be better… We can’t concede a goal right after. But in the end we drew the longest straw and won fairly, Hammar tells Discovery+.
The Hammarby midfielder on his decisive goal:
– We have had a bit too stagnant attacking play at the beginning but have worked a lot on filling up the box and pressing the opponents down. So it’s a training ground goal that we take into the match and do today, he says, and talks about the assist from Nahir Besara:
– Besara is on me to get into the box every time he has the ball and he says it often. So just listen to the captain and run into the box.
He celebrated the goal in front of the visiting Hammarby supporters:
– After that (celebration), I was ready to change. I was completely exhausted, haha. No, but it was a great feeling. I won’t swear in the interview, but it was so damn nice! says Hammar, who avoided being warned in connection with the celebration:
– Hell no, I’ve become so seasoned that I didn’t celebrate with the audience. I wasn’t that close so I escaped (yellow card).
Sirius midfielder Jamie Roche:
– We work hard, but Hammarby are good, run a lot and are difficult to face. Then we have to be more careful when we get to their penalty area. Sad loss, he says in Discovery+.
Sirius is twelfth in the Allsvenskan and is four points behind AIK in the qualifying spot.
Unfortunately for Bajen, key player Loret Sadiku was forced to break the match already in the first half.
