Hammarby’s losing streak is broken.
Nahir Besara, 33, and Jusef Erabi, 20, saved the team against Gif Sundsvall.
– I think we have taken steps, says Besara.
The hope of advancement in the Swedish cup is alive for Hammarby.
On Monday evening they beat Sundsvall 3-1 at home. The visitors took the lead, but then Bayern captain Nahir Besara and striker Jusef Erabi were behind the turnaround.
Besara played until Erabi, who equalized at 1-1 in the first half. After the break, Besara himself made it 2-1 and in stoppage time he assisted Erabi again.
Sundsvall missed a penalty
Besara is critical of the team’s defensive play. In addition to the goal, when Yaqub Finey scored 0–1, Sundsvall had a series of super chances.
Not least when you got a penalty at the end of the first half. Then Oliver Stojanovic-Fredin shot wide.
– I think we have taken steps, but I don’t think we are quite there. But if you are with us at training and see what the coaches are implementing, you have good faith in the future. I believe in the whole thing, the way they want to play. It will perhaps take time, but once it is in place it will be incredibly good, says Besara.
Notably, the victory was Hammarby’s first since Kim Hellberg took over as new head coach. They had one draw and four losses during the pre-season before Monday’s game.
– Great to win, it’s been a long time since we won, says Besara.

Decisive match awaits
Hammarby, who lost the cup opener against Västerås, is now three points behind Mjällby before the decisive round.
They meet on March 4 and Hammarby must win.
– It will be a great match. They are hard to beat. They will be a good measure of value for us, says Besara.
It is not entirely certain that victory against Mjällby will be enough for the quarter-finals for Hammarby, if Västerås SK should defeat Gif Sundsvall with several goals in the parallel match.
