It was at the beginning of June that Mikael Hjelmberg was appointed acting director of sport in Hammarby IF after Jesper Jansson resigned from his post at the club.
Until then, Hjelmberg had been the club’s chief scout for many years, and the club’s CEO Richard von Yxkull immediately chose to bet on Hjelmberg when Jansson left.
– It is “Micke” who has the sporting responsibility, said von Yxkull in the podcast “Just i dag”.
During the spring and summer, Hammarby has worked hard on setting up the new sporting organization, where the ambition has been to get everything ready by the beginning of autumn.
Takes over permanently
A central part of the work has been trying to crystallize who will lead the sporting management going forward and now Hammarby has made a decision on the matter.
According to information to Expressen, Hammarby wants Mikael Hjelmberg to take over the role of sports manager permanently. Sources state that Hjelmberg himself should be open to it.
What remains before the appointment is completely completed is some formality between Hammarby and Hjelmberg, something that may be completed in the next few weeks.
Dealing with the tasks
If everything falls into place and nothing unforeseen happens during the final stage of the process, the appointment is expected to be announced in the autumn.
When the Express reaches Hjelmberg, he says the following about our tasks.
– The summer has been tough in terms of workload. We haven’t been at full capacity since Jesper (Jansson) left and the whole organization has worked hard. You could say we have played in box play. But I am proud of how we managed this window together and the effects of the decisions we made. Regarding the future, I look forward with excitement and enthusiasm to new colleagues and a new sporting management that can take the club forward and upwards, he says.
