After almost eight years, the British toy company Hamleys is closing down on the Czech market. Disputes between the Czech investor and the Hamleys company are apparently behind everything.
In May 2016, Hamleys, the oldest toy store in the world, opened a branch in the Czech Republic. Children could start having fun on an area of about 6,000 square meters.
But Hamleys is ending in the Czech Republic. As reported Economic newspaper, the brand name has been disappearing from the store since December. Czech websites of toy shops don’t even work anymore.

”We didn’t agree on an extension of cooperation with Hamleys. Simply put, we each believed in something different. Hamleys wanted to have a traditional brick-and-mortar toy store, while we want an indoor entertainment center where people come primarily to have fun,” said the Czech investor Pavel Čmelik for the portal News.
Hamleys in Prague Na Příkopě will thus change to The Playground. Newly, more attractions should be available, the sale of toys will continue, but according to Čmelík, there will be rather fewer of them on offer.
The toy store has 11 branches in the UK and around 90 worldwide. It was founded in 1760 and is now the largest toy store in the world. At the same time, it also has the largest toy store, the seven-story Hamley’s Toy Store in London with a total sales area of over 4,500 square meters.
