Charles Leclerc won it the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix. A double victory could have been achieved for Ferrari, but Carlos Sainz Jr.’s car caught fire in the early stages of the race, and the damage is certainly not good for the team’s budget either. Mercedes managed to reproduce a maneuver from two years ago, did Lewis Hamilton teach George Russell how to push the Red Bulls out? Haas did not manage to score points for a long time before the race in Silverstone, but with the units obtained in Spielberg twice in a row, the American team will not leave empty-handed. Here are the F1 highlights from the Austrian Grand Prix!
THE DICE TURNED QUICKLY AT MERCEDES. Although we haven’t seen a Mercedes racer suffer an accident – especially during qualifying – in recent years, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell both crashed their cars in Spielberg during the third stage of qualifying. Understandably, this soon wiped the smile off Toto Wolff’s face.

The race went much better for Mercedes, as Russell finished fourth and Hamilton was able to stand on the podium for the third time in a row. It is true that Russell collided with Sergio Pérez after the start, for which he was later penalized. In addition, the incident was very similar to how Hamilton drove Alexander Albon from the same point of the track two years ago. Also Christian Horner, Red Bull team boss quickly highlighted the similarity. It seems that Hamilton has already taught this and that to his young teammate.

ASTON FINALLY GOT A VICTORY. True, only in Formula 2. The main race of the deposit series – which was won by Richard Verschoor, but was subsequently disqualified, thus
Logan Sargeant inherited the victory – after that the medical car was parked in a somewhat strange place.

MORE POINTS MEANS MORE MONEY. Anyone who watched the latest season of Drive to Survive will surely remember the scene where Günther Steiner and Mick Schumacher, who were looking for sponsorship for Haas, took part in a photo shoot. The two of them posed with, among other things, a sauna or a small boat for children. After the stable’s double points-scoring last week, the size of the boat was slightly improved in the image that was circulated on the Internet, and after Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen also scored points in Spielberg, the boat only continued to grow.

ANOTHER MISTAKE WILL COST FERRARI A LOT. There was no shortage of spectacular and somewhat scary scenes at the Spielberg competition. Of course, Ferrari would have been happy if it didn’t happen that way, because some excitement was caused by Carlos Sainz Jr.’s car catching fire this time. The Spanish competitor was once again overtaken by the devil of technology, and the flames from the number 55 Ferrari caused significant damage to the car.
My heart stopped for couple of seconds when I saw Sainz’s car refused to stop while it was on fire. Hard luck. pic.twitter.com/TumFIxmFEl

However, in the 57th lap of the race, the factors affecting Ferrari did not end yet, because after Sainz’s exit, Charles Leclerc indicated almost immediately that something was wrong with his gas pedal. The remaining ten laps were filled with great concern for Ferrari, but Leclerc (this time) did not have to give up the victory.

PÉREZ, SAINZ AND VERSTAPPEN ON THE PODIUM. Two of the competitors below did not even finish the race, and anyway, three completely different people could celebrate on the podium at the end of the Austrian Grand Prix, so the inscriptions were quite misleading for those who are not so familiar with the sport. And if that wasn’t enough, the team of announced competitors didn’t really hit either.
