Hamilton on the same level with Schumacher – Eiffel GP statistics

The long-awaited record has finally been set again – Luis Hamilton now has as many victories as Michael Schumacher, who was the most successful driver in F1 history since 2001. Significantly, Hamilton set a record in Schumacher’s homeland of Germany.

Although Schumacher needed fewer races to reach 91 victories, his last years in the Mercedes team ruined the statistics, while in Hamilton’s case he is unlikely to stop at that number.

Another important record fell thanks to Kimi Raikonen. The Finnish pilot became the richest starter in the history of the F1 Championship, ahead of former fighter Rubens Barricello.

Even the cancellation of Friday’s training did not stop the Mercedes team from winning another qualification. Hamilton and Botass have divided the pole position in all 11 stages of this season. If they succeed in the remaining 6 stages, Mercedes will become the first F1 team with 100% pole position realization of the season. 9 times the dominant team missed one qualifying victory until the perfect season. The most recent was in 2016, when Mercedes reached 20 pole positions in 21 stages.

Racing without a formula with a Mercedes engine at points could seem almost impossible. Since the 2008 Chinese Grand Prix, 228 stages of at least one car with a Mercedes engine have reached the test points. The German manufacturer has now repeated Ford’s achievement, finishing 228 consecutive stages in points from the 1967 Canadian GP to the 1983 Dutch stage.

Although Daniel Richtero has scored more points than Max Verstapen in the last five stages, and Renault has only conceded with Mercedes, this was the French carmaker’s first podium since returning to the championship with the factory team. The last time a Renault driver climbed the podium was in Malaysia in 2011, when Nick Hydefeld did it, while Daniel Richtero was not in the top three after winning in Monaco two years ago.

For the first time since 2012, representatives of seven different teams have risen to the podium. Of the teams starting in this year’s championship, only “Haas”, “Alfa Romeo” and “Williams” are left without champagne and a cup.

Niko Hulkenberg was called upon to replace Lens Stole at this stage. After a weak qualification, he managed to finish in points. Hulkenberg became the first rider since Brandon Hartley in 2017 to replace both riders of the same team in one season, as he had to take a seat at the helm of the Serhiy Perez formula in Silverstone. Going twice to the start, Hulkenberg entered the top eight on both occasions, while Sebastian Vettel also entered the Top 8 only 2 times this year, despite spending a full season on the Ferrari team.

Roman Grožāns finished in ninth place, scoring for the first time this season. At the moment, only the two Williams riders George Russell and Nicolas Latifi are still ‘dry’. Significantly, Latifi is higher in the overall standings, having won 11th place twice, while Russell regularly shows one, although Russell regularly shows a much more impressive performance, just like last year, when Robert Kubica gave up all his qualifications, but brought the team the only point.

This was the first and probably the only time the Eiffel Grand Prix took place in the Formula 1 Championship. The Nurburgring track was already the only one where three different Grand Prixes took place – German, Luxembourg and European. This year, Imola will be the second track to host 3 different Grand Prix – Italian, San Marino and Emilia-Romagna.
