Hamilton cut him out of 5th place for Sunday’s race, but he was essentially unlikely to reach the podium in the race. The British pilot in the end though in the third place he waved the checkered flagafter the hair Max Verstappenand then the other Red Bull-pilot, sergio perez also dropped out.
The seven-time world champion admitted after the race “grateful” in order to leave Bahrain with a podium result.
“First of all, congratulations to Ferrari, I’m so glad to see them perform well again, it’s a team with a serious history,” the British driver said sportily. “It’s great to see Carlos and Charles on the podium, so congratulations to them!”
“It was a very tough race, we were constantly suffering. This is really the best result we have achieved today. Of course, it’s a bad luck for the other two pilots, but we’ve done our best and I’m grateful for those points. ”
To the question of whether there are any upcoming developments that may be a solution a Mercedes problems, Hamilton acknowledged they will not develop overnight a Ferrari and Red Bull in terms of pace.
“I hope so. I know the guys are working extremely hard in the factory, but there won’t be a quick turnaround. I feel like we were the most united team for a long time. I know we all know this… We continue to work with our heads down. There is very, very much left. ”
