Although Lewis Hamilton is not playing a significant role in the battle for the Formula 1 world championship this season, the 37-year-old driver is not yet thinking about retiring.
“I want to keep racing. I love what I do. I have been doing it for thirty years and I don’t feel I have to stop,” Hamilton told a select group of media. The Briton’s contract with Mercedes will last until 2023.
The seven-time world champion says he will enter talks with team boss Toto Wolff over the next few months, intending to stay longer with the team he has been loyal to since 2013. Hamilton made his Formula 1 debut with McLaren. in 2007.
Another five years
“We will make another deal,” expects Hamilton, who recently indicated to Wolff that he could compete in the premier class of motorsport for at least another five years.
Hamilton has not yet won a single race this season. Last weekend he was long in the lead, but after a thrilling final he still had to acknowledge his superiority over Max Verstappen.
Hamilton shares the world title record with Michael Schumacher. Last season seemed to be on track for his eighth overall win, but he was eliminated on the last lap in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. dethroned by Verstappen.
