The first formulas (F1) champion Lewis Hamilton set a new record for Bahrain’s Grand Prix track on Saturday, approaching the 98th victory of his career in the GP stages.

The seven-time world champion and Mercedes driver looked completely confident and in control of the race when he set a new record in the spotlight – 1 minute and 27, 264 seconds.

“We did a really good job overnight. I was really happy with the car from the very beginning. I just didn’t make mistakes, “Hamilton said.

He finished about 0.3 seconds ahead of his teammate Walter Botas and 0.4 seconds ahead of Red Bull teammate Max Verstapen.

Hamilton also set the fastest time on both Friday practice runs.

The champion and other riders have expressed dissatisfaction with Pirelli tires, which are being tested before 2021, indicating that they are too heavy. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has critically acknowledged that these tires are even worse than the previous ones.

Given the poor grip of the tires, Verstapen joked that the 2021 championship could become a “drift challenge” if the Pirelli manufacturer used the tires as planned.

Four-time champion Vettel also agrees with Hamilton and Verstapen that the 2020 tire mix should be maintained for next year.

“I hope the drivers will be heard and we will not use them,” Verstapen said.

This is the 15th of 17 shortcuts to the Covid-19 pandemic. Another GP race will take place in Bahrain next Sunday, until the final race is held in Abu Dhabi.
