Hamilton criticized the FIA for inattention to the environment

Lewis Hamilton personally took part in the traditional FIA gala ceremony for the first time since 2020, and this year it took place in Baku. At the end of the season, the Mercedes driver took the stage as the third prize-winner of the World Championship, and, of course, in this solemn atmosphere he said quite the right words, including congratulating Max Verstappen and the Red Bull Racing team on their success.

But the seven-time world champion had communicated with the press before this, and here the FIA got it from him not only for the strange “investigation” regarding Toto and Susie Wolff – we also quoted these words from Lewis. But he also questioned the federation’s real commitment to environmental conservation.

This year the gala ceremony is taking place in the capital of Azerbaijan, next year it is planned to be held in Africa, in Rwanda, but Hamilton believes that it would be more correct to organize everything in Paris, where the FIA headquarters is located. This would reduce costs and cause much less harm to the environment.

“Although I really like Baku, and it’s a really wonderful place, I have questions for the FIA: do they think about the environment there? – said Hamilton. – After all, many people flew here from far away, although the headquarters of the federation is actually located in Paris, and it would be much easier to carry out everything there.

But the arena where the ceremony takes place in Baku is impressive. This evening we all come together to celebrate the glorious achievements of all the wonderful people who work in motorsport and all the drivers who I do not get to see during the year.”
