George Russell has named three athletes that he has had as references on his path to Formula 1. One of them, obviously, his current teammate at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton. The other two, Cristiano Ronaldo and Novak Djokovic. For the British, the three are “leaders” in their discipline and he hopes to become one of them “in the coming years.”
Every athlete has had or has their role models. George Russell is still quite young and, therefore, has grown up watching the three he named on television: Lewis Hamilton, Cristiano Ronaldo and Novak Djokovic.
When it comes to motorsports, it is evident that Hamilton is one of its references. First of all, he’s British, like him. And, secondly, he is one of the most successful Formula 1 drivers of all time.
On the other hand, Russell has acknowledged having also paid close attention to the figure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Novak Djokovic throughout his path to the premier category of motorsport. Both, despite their age – close to 40 – are still ‘hungry’ to win and have always shown that they demand the most from themselves, one in football and the other in tennis.
Looking ahead to the next few years, Russell only hopes to become a ‘leader’ like these three personalities each in their respective sports. And not only on the track, but also off it, like Lewis Hamilton.
“I have enormous respect for Cristiano Ronaldo. He is, without a doubt, the leader in his field. the same with Novak Djokovicthey are fighters who demand maximum physical performance“, commented the Mercedes driver in an interview with Oracle Time.
“Then there is Lewis Hamiltonobviously. He makes great use of his platform and I admire him for that as much as his wins and what he’s doing off the court. I hope to be one of those leaders in the coming years…“George Russell added.
The seven-time world champion has been the protagonist of many initiatives. For example, his protests against racism transcended to the point that Mercedes painted the car black in 2020. Likewise, that year Hamilton donated half a million dollars to Australia after the fires suffered.
