Yesterday, the deputy head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo (Hamedti), addressed a letter to the people in which he admitted his mistake in participating in the October 25, 2021 coup, which overthrew the civilian government in the country, expressing his remorse for what he had done.
The speech of the second man in the state came a day after the statement of the head of the Sovereignty Council, the army commander, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in which he stated that the army staged a “coup to reform the state of the country.” .
Hamidti said that he supported the youth revolution in 2018, but he made a mistake when he participated in the 2021 coup with Al-Burhan, after it became clear to him, “from day one, that the coup had become a gateway to the return of remnants of the regime of ousted President Omar al-Bashir.”
Hemedti, who leads the powerful Rapid Support Forces, warned elements of the Bashir regime against trying to drive a wedge between the army and its forces.
He stressed that this situation is what prompted him to “return to the right path, and the desire to get out of power and hand it over to civilians.”
Hamidati expressed his remorse for participating in the “coup”
