Government commissioner for sexually transgressive behavior Mariëtte Hamer reacts critically to the investigation into the abuses at TV program The Voice, which was published on Wednesday. John de Mol, who was responsible as Talpa boss, also received criticism from Hamer.

“You appealed to the women: go and report, because it is in order,” Hamer said about statements by De Mol after the controversial broadcast of BOOS, the program that exposed the abuses more than a year ago. “But it wasn’t right.”

Hamer understands that many women who initially reported to Van Doorne, the law firm that conducted the research for production company ITV, did not want to be interviewed. “They said: we don’t trust it,” says Hamer.

‘It all floats a bit in between’

The government commissioner was not at all enthusiastic about Van Doorne’s research. “It’s not a culture survey, because the culture at the company isn’t surveyed,” she said, adding that it’s not an integrity survey either. “It is not clear who was responsible. It all floats a bit in between.” Whether ITV has its affairs in order “we also have to see”, said Hamer.

Law firm Van Doorne concluded that there have been several cases of “inappropriate behaviour” at the talent show, but that nothing seems to have been done with the reports to managers. “Some individuals appear to have been held accountable for their behavior informally, but no formal action appears to have been taken,” was one of the conclusions.

The victims of The Voice of Holland want the responsible Dutch management team of ITV to step down.
