Hamburg broke the 100 limit for the corona incidence value on Wednesday. The Senate could therefore pull the “emergency brake” faster than expected.
The district health authorities registered 393 new corona cases on Wednesday – 190 more than a week ago and 184 more than on Tuesday. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days is 100.9 – and thus again as high as at the end of January.
Curve points upwards
The difference to then: a good one and a half months ago the curve was pointing downwards – now it has been pointing upwards again for weeks – not steep, but steady. Another difference: In January there were even larger outbreaks in nursing homes, which contributed to the corona numbers. Currently, the infections are not due to individual outbreaks, according to the social authority. It is still a diffuse infection process. It is only clear that individual Districts such as Harburg and Hamburg-Mitte are particularly badly affected. Others like Eimsbüttel and Hamburg-Nord are not as strong.

“Emergency brake” is getting closer
The Hamburg Senate announced on Tuesday that it would apply an “emergency brake” to the easing measures recently introduced if the incidence value exceeds the 100 mark for three days in a row. In this case, they will return to the old contact restrictions for households, to Click & Collect in retail and to closed museums, galleries and zoos. Schools and daycare centers, on the other hand, should remain open for the foreseeable future.
Fewer people in the hospital
As of Tuesday, 260 corona patients are being treated in Hamburg’s hospitals, 2 fewer than previously reported. 97 people are treated in the intensive care units, 4 fewer than last stated.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), a total of 1,337 people have died in connection with Covid 19 in the Hanseatic city since the beginning of the pandemic. That is five more deaths than last stated. According to the authorities, a total of 55,877 people in the Hanseatic city have tested positive for the corona virus since the beginning of the pandemic. According to estimates by the RKI, around 50,200 of these can now be regarded as recovered.
