You finally have it!
Hamburg – For almost a month, a car hater scared car owners in Hamburg: he used a hammer to move through the western parts of the city in particular, smashing the windshields of parked cars street by street. The police documented 245 cases – the damage runs into hundreds of thousands.
The hammer man just couldn’t be grasped – until now! Urgent suspect: a Syrian (31). The police arrested him in the district of Rissen on the Alte Sülldorfer Landstrasse.
He was caught in the act!
The arrest came when officers saw the man tampering with parked cars again. During a search, the police confiscated a hammer and a banned knuckleduster-knife combination. Before his arrest at 1:15 a.m., the man had already damaged nine vehicles with a hammer.
In order to catch the car hater, the police had brought together ten civilian investigators from the Osdorf, Stellingen, Rotherbaum and Altona districts.
He apparently destroyed out of revenge
The motorists’ nightmare began on May 3rd. And that’s no coincidence. Because: According to BILD information, the Syrian was caught again on April 29 by the police driving without a license. The officers are said to have confiscated his car keys.
A few days later, the 31-year-old is said to have come to the infirmary to pick up the key again. Of course he didn’t get it. That apparently made him angry – anger that then erupted in the May nights…
One of the injured drivers is Christian Bastein (51) from cracks. The windshield of his rental car, the Audi A6 station wagon, was smashed on Friday night. Bastein: “Today I wanted to take a rental car on a business trip to East Friesland, but nothing will come of it.”
The car hater apparently didn’t have a preference for certain models. The rioters hammered their way through the streets indiscriminately. Vehicles were also attacked and damaged on the hospital grounds in Rissen.
In one night in May, the rioters destroyed more than 20 windshields. In some cases, the damage was in the thousands because of the sensors of expensive assistance systems in the windshield.
After the arrest, the man was taken to the police station and is now in custody.
