FA goalkeeper Marin Sego prevents Hamburg from taking a clear lead
The Handball Sport Club Hamburg couldn’t find its way into the game at the beginning and trailed until 3:5 in the 8th minute. In this phase, Casper Ulrich Mortensen was denied by goalkeeper Marin Sego, who a little later also won against Niklas Weller and prevented the equalizer. Johannes Bitter triggered a 3-0 run with a save and so the deficit – here Martin Risom scored his first Bundesliga goal to make it 5:5 – became the first lead at 6:5 (12th). FA Göppingen equalized again, but then Hamburg continued to advance. After the first red card against Göppingen’s Josip Sarac, after a foul on Leif Tissier, Mortensen converted the penalty to make it 10:8 (16th). Four goalless minutes followed on the Hamburg side, as FA goalkeeper Marin Sego almost nailed his goal and Göppingen reduced the score to 9:10 before captain Weller made it 11:9 (20th). It remained a game of “head to head” in which the lead changed back to the guests. The sides changed with a score of 17:17. Casper Ulrich Mortensen contributed 13 goals to the victory

Mortensen and Bitter give Hamburg important points
The guests got off to a better start in the second half, taking the lead with two quick goals at 19:17 (33rd). Once again HSV Hamburg was behind. Two goals in a row, after two saves by Jens Vortmann, who was now in goal, by Dani Baijens and Zoran Ilic brought the first equalizer of the second half at 22:22 (40th). Göppingen went ahead and the home side equalized, and Weller equalized at 26:26, preceded by a save from Bitter. Supported by two more saved balls from Bitter, who came into the goal for Vortmann in the 46th minute, Frederik Bo Andersen scored two goals to make it 28:26 (50th).
Göppingen also countered with a double strike within a minute to make it 28:28. After a missed seven-meter penalty from Mortensen – goalkeeper Bart Ravensbergen remained the winner – it was Mortensen who took the lead again to 29:28 in the 55th minute. But the guests were not impressed and equalized. Two converted seven meters from Mortensen brought the preliminary decision at 32:30, when there were still 43 seconds left on the clock. Sebastian Heymann shortened the score to 31:32 eleven seconds before the final whistle, before Mortensen made the final score 33:31 with a seven-meter shot at the final siren. The seven-meter penalty was the second red card against FRISCH UP! Göppingen’s Kresimir Kozina preceded him, who prevented the quick throw, which also resulted in a direct seven-meter penalty.
Casper Ulrich Mortensen became the match winner with a total of 13 goals, alongside Johannes Bitter with ten saves. “The last time hasn’t been easy for us,” said a relieved Leif Tissier after the game. “Despite some good games, we didn’t have the return we had hoped for. Today we finally managed to get our goalkeepers into the game better, we made the defense more consistent again and forced the Göppingen team to make mistakes.”After the final whistle, Hamburg was in a celebratory mood after an important victory
