The Winter Cathedral heralds the pre-Christmas season. In addition to the scary parade, lantern run and Santa Claus activities, there are also new rides on Hamburg’s Heiligengeistfeld this year.
According to the economic authority and the showmen’s association, more than 230 shops will provide thrills and taste experiences from Friday. New features include the “Fire Alarm – Fire & Rescue” running store, which takes visitors on a journey through the Las Vegas Fire Department. There are 150 effects and obstacles to discover and overcome on four floors. Other new features include the giant octopus “The Polyp” and the “Playball” ride.
Scary parade, lantern run and fireworks
There will be a scary parade on November 14th, a light and lantern run on November 20th and St. Nicholas activities on December 4th and 6th. On Friday, the opening day of the Winter Cathedral, there will be a big fireworks display at 10:30 p.m. Also on November 22nd and the grand finale on December 6th.

The Hamburg Interior Authority points out that there is a ban on weapons at public festivals. This was decided at federal level after a series of serious crimes involving knives in public spaces. There will therefore be occasional checks by the security service upon entry. In addition, the police will have a strong presence on the site and carry out checks if there is suspicion.
Opening times at the cathedral
The Winterdom lasts until December 8th and is open Monday to Thursday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. On Sunday, November 17th (Remembrance Day) and Sunday, November 24th (Sunday of the Dead), the folk festival is open from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesdays are family days with reduced prices for all visitors.
