The convoy started on Saturday morning in the Wilhelm-Iwan-Ring in Allermöhe. According to the police, around 250 trucks took part in the protest, the truckers reported 300 participating vehicles. Around 11 a.m., the honking trucks reached downtown Hamburg. Banners hung on the driver’s cabs of the vehicles such as “You only eat while we deliver”, “Stop the diesel madness!” and “No to the diesel rip-off” and “Insolvency of the German freight forwarding trade”.
Diesel prices put hauliers and commuters under pressure
A truck driver explained that some companies would now deregister vehicles, the fuel prices were too high: “The hauliers have their backs to the wall”. Another said: “It’s not just about us, with diesel prices employees are already saying we don’t come to work anymore because we can’t afford it anymore”.

Rally at the port
The truck drivers held a rally during their protest action on St. Pauli-Hafenstraße and then drove back to Allermöhe. In downtown Hamburg, the demonstration caused a 15-minute delay for car traffic. Already last Saturday, a motorcade caused a lot of traffic disruption in the city area.
Peace demonstration on Sunday
A peace demonstration will follow in the city center on Sunday. It should be limited to the area around the Jungfernstieg. Around 20,000 people are expected there for the “Peace in Ukraine – Security in Europe” rally. The demo starts at 12 noon. If you want to go downtown on Sunday, it is best to use public transport, the police spokeswoman recommended. The journey by bus and train is also recommended for the participants of the peace demo.
