Hamburg to Add New Subway Station in Barmbek to Relieve Pressure on Barmbek Train Station

Subway line 3 is getting a new station in the middle of Barmbek. This should also relieve pressure on Barmbek train station.

Hamburg is getting a new subway station. The HVV announced this on Wednesday. The new station in Barmbek will be called “Fuhlsbütteler Straße”, will complement the U3 line and will be located between the Habichtstraße and Barmbek stops.

The HVV hopes for around 10,000 people to get on and off there every day. Positive side effect: Anyone who gets on there reduces the load on Barmbek train station.

The new station is scheduled to go into operation in 2027

The new stop should come comparatively quickly, as early as 2027. The neighborhood at the Barmbek S-Bahn/U-Bahn junction is also looking forward to it: The “Fuhle” is intended to relieve pressure on Barmbek station. The transport association reports that there is chronic overload there.

The surrounding area will also be restructured for the new station. The Hochbahn is planning a Bike+Ride station with 230 bicycle parking spaces on Hardorffweg. The four HVV switch points with sharing cars located under the bridge are also to be moved there. The twelve remaining parking spaces under the bridge will be eliminated without replacement, but there will be a city bike station there.
