The Hamburg AfD wants Germany to stop giving weapons to Ukraine. Hamburg AfD leader Dirk Nockemann said this Thursday in a summer interview with NDR 90.3 and the Hamburg Journal.
There is no doubt in Nockemann that Russia invaded Ukraine. But he says: “In the past, Germany has never delivered weapons to tension zones, let alone war zones. This is a good tradition where we say that this should be maintained.”
AfD Hamburg still depends on gas from Russia
However, Germany is currently also supplying weapons to other areas of tension – such as Israel. However, Nockemann sees Germany helping Ukraine to defend itself against Russian aggression as a threat and therefore opposes sending US military here. “Our main aim is to prevent Germany from being drawn into war. ” The Hamburg AfD still depends on gas from Russia and wants peace talks – although Russia only wants to hold them if Ukraine gives up territory.
“It depends on which one Groups of people come”
When it comes to immigration, Nockemann said that Germany needs it. But he also made it clear that the AfD would like to distinguish between wanted and unwanted immigrants. “It always depends on which groups of people come to us. We all know that we need workers, qualified workers in Germany.”
One would first have to look at how the German people could save themselves, says Nockemann – keyword birth rate. “But if that’s not possible, that doesn’t mean to me that we will also bring in workers from other countries, especially what we need.” Recently, there was an average of less than 1.4 children at women in Hamburg.
Nockemann accepts that refugees who are not skilled workers often migrate illegally. However, the right to apply for asylum here is anchored in the Basic Law.
Distance from Höcke is not clear
The interview was also about the leader of AfD Thuringia, Björn Höcke, who was convicted for using Nazi slogans. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies his Thuringian regional association as right-wing extremist. Nockemann does not want to separate himself from Höcke: “Sorry, my job is to do politics. I don’t need to distance myself, just from unconstitutional efforts.” Nockemann confirmed that Höcke is attractive because of the judgement: “Now a lot of things are being put in Mr. Höcke’s mouth. Frankly I don’t agree with some of what he says. And we have no higher goal here in Hamburg than to restore the constitution to help it really come into effect.”
Demo versus interview with Nockemann
About 70 people showed up against the interview with the AfD politician in front of the NDR in Lokstedt on Thursday afternoon. The Hamburg “Alliance Against the Right,” among others, called this. According to critics, such interviews only give a racist party an opportunity for populist propaganda.
