Hamburg – The Hamburg Sea Devils start next weekend in their third season in the European League of Football (ELF). The duel with the Wroclaw Panthers should be the sixth game in the short history so far. A hot fight is expected again in sunny Poland. The Hamburgers have been in both finals of the ELF so far, does it work on the third attempt?

“The team put a lot of energy into the offseason. Young players show themselves hungry, older players take the young ones by the hand. It’s very interesting how this group came together. We’re taking a lot of positive things into the season,” said the head coach Charles Jones. “We have to adapt again this season, but our offense and defense can do it. The league is stronger than ever. Everyone wants to advance the sport.”

An old acquaintance of the Panthers could cause a sensation on the other side this time. Malik Stanley, who played for Wroclaw last year, is playing for the Hanseatic League this season. “I am very happy to be able to play in Wroclaw again. The Panthers gave me a chance last year that I didn’t think I’d get. I owe a lot to the Panthers community. It means a lot to me to compete against friends who I can also call family alongside the Brotherhood here in Hamburg. It’s a special rivalry,” says the American, looking at the game.

The Sea Devils have a journey with a few stops in store on Friday before aiming for victory on Saturday at 4.25pm. The Panthers are renewed: With head coach Dave Christensen and quarterback Matthew Vitale, there are two fresh faces on the sidelines of the Poles. The past showed some heated and exciting duels in which the Sea Devils were able to prevail in four out of five games. The playoff semifinals in the 2021 season, in which the Sea Devils just barely secured a ticket for the final in Düsseldorf, are particularly memorable.
