Hamburg – The Hamburg Sea Devils want in the European League of Football (ELF) gain new hope. After the unsuccessful away trip to the French capital, it is up to the Hanseatic League to keep their clean sheet against the Panthers from Wroclaw. “I wouldn’t call it revenge. But it’s always good to beat the same opponent in the second leg after a defeat. We need to keep working on the basics that we’ve been neglecting for the past week. In the games we lost, it was the little things that kept us from succeeding,” said Charles Jones, Sea Devils head coach.
Kendral Ellison, defensive coordinator, goes into the offensive and its number one wide receiver: “Tony Tate is a strong football player. With 14 touchdowns we definitely have to watch out for him. It is our job to adapt to this. In the second leg we can fall back on a healthy secondary.”
Sea Devils sign Curtis Slater and Mike Taylor for injured Maurice Wright Jr. and Deion Harris
Before the game against the Panthers, the Hamburgers will strengthen themselves with two US veterans. Defensive back Curtis Slater and linebacker Michael Taylor join the team. Slater was already under contract with the Sea Devils in 2021 and was jointly responsible for the finals, among other things. Meanwhile, Deion Harris and Maurice Wright Jr. were placed on injured reserve. Both are expected to rejoin the team later this season.
Ellison is a believer in both Taylor and Slater: “Mike immediately brings leadership and brutal physique to our defense. He has already shown his dominance in both Japan and Europe. He also knows the city and has a high football IQ. I’m looking forward to his first game! Curtis didn’t just show us how dominant he can be. With him we get a player who can play to his strengths both on defense and in the special teams. He knows Hamburg and my defense and can have a direct positive influence.”
The 31-year-old Taylor was active as a college athlete for the Florida Gators, and later demonstrated his talent with the Hamburg Huskies, Marburg Mercenaries, IBM Big Blue and the Steelers Rookie Mini Camp. At 104 kg and 1.84 m tall, he should support the linebacker corps in the coming weeks.
