Postponed once, now it’s on: the Hamburg Triathlon. The races for the World Triathlon Championship Series take place on Saturday and Sunday. The NDR broadcasts in the live stream.
“Hamburg is one of the most prestigious races on our calendar, which is popular with both spectators and athletes, and we are delighted that it is back on the calendar this year,” said World Triathlon President and IOC member Marisol Casado after the announcement of the new start date.

The original date 10/11. July could not be kept due to the Corona crisis. While last year, due to the pandemic situation, it was only possible to hold one competition for the elite, this year the focus is again on amateur athletes. About 3,000 have reported.
“It is important for us that this event takes place. It has a beacon character,” said Martin Engelhardt. The President of the German Triathlon Union referred to the unique situation in 2018: “We got 10,000 Hamburg residents to hold a triathlon in the city. This is unique in the world.”
A triathlon for everyone
This year, too, there is a suitable challenge for everyone: In addition to the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming / 40 km cycling / 10 km running), the athletes go over the sprint distance (0.5 km / 20 km / 5 km) ) at the start and there will also be a fight for medals in the relay. For chief organizer Oliver Schiek, one thing is clear anyway: “For me, the star this year is the event.”
