Thousands of people in Hamburg had to start their Friday morning without electricity. Several parts of the city were paralyzed by a disruption in the power grid.
“There is an interruption in supply in the Hamburg network area,” said Stromnetz Hamburg on its website. The affected areas are the districts of Borgfelde, Hohenfelde and St. Georg. Initially, the city’s electricity supplier had expected that the malfunction would be resolved around 9 a.m. – but the all-clear followed much earlier.

The power failure ended at around 7.50 a.m. For 47 minutes, a good 2000 households and almost 170 commercial customers in the districts of Borgfelde, Hohenfelde and St. Georg were affected, said a spokeswoman for Stromnetz Hamburg. The cause is defective equipment in the ground.

Only a few days ago there had been a large-scale power failure in Borgfelde. The incident had drastic consequences for a care center on Jungestrasse.
