These days, many people in Hamburg are getting SMS with false parcel notifications sent to their cell phones. Cyber criminals want to use it to steal personal data.
Most of the time, the SMS says that a package should be delivered or that you missed one. A link is also always sent. The police warn: If this is opened, malware will be installed on the mobile phone and the message will be automatically sent to the contacts stored on the mobile phone. This can lead to high costs.
Police advise: block senders
The Hamburg police know this type of fraud and speak of a mass phenomenon. In an interview with NDR 90.3, spokeswoman Sandra Levgrün advises not to open the news in the first place. In addition, the sender number should be blocked. That is the most effective way to counteract it.

Affected people should contact mobile phone providers
The servers through which the SMS are circulated are mostly located abroad and are difficult to identify. If the link has already been opened, it is generally advised to switch on flight mode and then contact the mobile operator to check whether costs have already been incurred.
