Medical protective masks have been mandatory in buses, trains and shops in Hamburg since Friday. Those who are in need should receive a grant for the purchase.
“The additional costs should not burden the beneficiaries,” said Social Senator Melanie Leonhard (SPD) on Monday. Adult recipients of services such as Hartz IV would therefore receive a grant of ten euros each for the months of February and March “so that they can procure the masks themselves”.
One-time payment in February
The grant is to be paid in February as a one-off payment of EUR 20. Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) had previously announced that people who purchase Hartz IV can count on support for the purchase of medical masks.
All Hamburg residents aged 14 and over are required to wear so-called surgical masks or mouth and nose covers in public transport and in shops among others with the standards KN95 or FFP2 to wear.
