Hamburg – TatütaJA! Margot (79) and Manfred (80) will only be able to get married with police protection – and for the second time.
60 years ago, Hamburg police officers saved the couple’s wedding and brought them to the altar in time. Now Margot and Manfred Lojenburg celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary. And of course a police car brought them to the church again for this wonderful anniversary.
In 1964, Manfred Lojenburg (then 20 years old) had an accident at 9 a.m. on the way to his own wedding.
Accident on the way to the wedding
The former customs officer of the economic authority: “I really wanted to take my wife to church myself, so I rented a VW Beetle and wanted to pick her up. But I was nervous. And when I reached for my glasses on the passenger seat, I jerked the steering wheel.”
The VW overturned and was badly damaged. Manfred Lojenburg was uninjured – but there was no taxi anywhere in sight. Then a patrol car appeared. The officers wanted to take care of the accident.
At that time, the two police officers became saviors in dire need and showed heart: In the patrol car “Peter 70/3”, a sergeant major and a senior sergeant drove the groom first to the bride and then to the church. The guests were already waiting there.
BILD reported on the wedding in 1964
“Because the patrol car had saved our wedding as a wedding carriage, I wanted to surprise my wife on her diamond wedding anniversary. And it was approved as an exception,” said the pensioner.

On Saturday, police superintendent Zbigniew Zodel (48) arrived at the couple’s home in the “Peter 43/96” patrol car and took them to St. Johannis Church in the Hamburg district of Curslack. 50 guests were already waiting there for the celebratory service. Among them were the couple’s three children, eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The officer told BILD: “The police are a kind of lucky charm for the couple. It was an honor for me to drive them to church.”
