Denis Holub is planning a charity run to Hamburg from July 30 to August 14, 2022. He wants to walk 1,120 kilometers in 16 days.
The student from Breisach am Rhein (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district) has been working for months on preparing his charity run. Denis Holub virtually “walked” every meter, carefully planning nutrition, footwear and clothing.
Average 70 kilometers per day
When he talks about his plan, everyone thinks it’s impossible. After all, the average distance of 70 kilometers per day would be a challenge even by bike. However, Dennis has no concerns that he will not hold out. Should he reach his limits due to an injury, he has a plan B, which is to continue with the bike. Denis’ role models include endurance athletes such as Ironman Mallorca graduate Jürgen Wetzel, from whom he also got one or two tips.
Accompaniment on the first stage
Some long-distance runners from his club, the LAC Freiburg, will run the first stage, Freiburg-Offenburg. Each stage is different, between 60 and 103 kilometers – at least a marathon and a half every day, 1,120 km in total.
Get as many donations as possible
Denis is motivated by the prospect of making as many donations as possible for the international Kinderhilfsorganisation Mary’s Meals to collect. The NGO supports children in the poorest countries in the world and provides more than two million hungry children with healthy and strengthening school meals every day. This not only satisfies hunger – education gives girls and boys the long-term chance of a better future.
