HSV and FC St Pauli fought a fierce battle for the city championship on Friday. This meant a huge police operation well before the game.
While St Pauli fans left the Volksparkstadion disappointed after losing 1-0 at Hamburger SV, HSV fans were in high party mood. Both campers went home after the final whistle without incident, police said. Some of them went in fan marches of hundreds of people to the train station in Stellingen (HSV) and to the Bahrenfeld trotting track (FC St. Pauli).
After the game it remained quiet, there were no big events right after the final whistle or in the city. So the decision of the police is positive. Overall, there were only isolated crimes, but concrete figures were not yet available Saturday night. In a small fire in the northern center caused by HSV fans after the end of the game, two women suffered smoke inhalation and burns and had to be treated in hospital.
Too many fans: Stellingen train station temporarily closed
The federal police had to temporarily close Stellingen train station after the final whistle to prevent the platform from being overcrowded. A man lit a blue steam pot in a crowd. The rest of the exit phase went smoothly. The behavior of the fans was “very pleasant,” said spokesman Robert Hemp. “The tactical security concept of the Federal Police in the railway police area Hamburg work out completely.”
The officers continued their work in the neighborhood to separate HSV and St Pauli fans at Hans-Albers-Platz. “Separating the two groups of fans and ensuring the safety of the visitors was the main priority and was successfully ensured by the emergency services,” said police spokeswoman Nina Kaluza.
