Hamburg: Commemoration of October 7th with Chancellor Scholz

Today marks the anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel. There is also a commemoration in Hamburg, at which the Federal Chancellor is also expected.

Hamburg’s second mayor, Katharina Fegebank (Greens), has called for an end to anti-Semitic incidents in the Hanseatic city. “What particularly affects me is that October 7th last year also marked the starting point of an increase in hatred of Jewish life in our own country, in our own city,” said Fegebank, according to a statement on the anniversary of the Hamas attack.

Green politician Fegebank calls for more solidarity

“Three quarters of the Jews surveyed in our dark field study report anti-Semitic incidents in Hamburg. This must come to an end, we must oppose this inhumanity with all the solidarity of civil society and with the consistency of the rule of law,” said the Green politician.

At the same time, Fegebank emphasized: “The suffering of people on all sides is immeasurable. An end to this intolerable situation must be the goal of all diplomatic efforts.”

A memorial ceremony is planned for Monday evening in the Hohe Weide synagogue (Eimsbüttel). Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) also wants to make a statement there. Hamburg’s mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) will also take part.
