Travelers at Hamburg Airport have to be prepared for flight cancellations and delays on Tuesday. After the strike at other airports in Germany on Monday, Hamburg should also be affected on Tuesday.
In the nationwide collective bargaining dispute between security forces at airports, the ver.di trade union called on employees in passenger control and in personnel and goods control in Hamburg to go on a all-day warning strike on Tuesday. The airport company recommended that all travelers “find out about the status of their flight before arriving at the airport”.
Most of the flights have been cancelled
According to Hamburg Airport, the airlines have canceled most of the flights scheduled for Tuesday. 51 out of 87 departures and 18 out of 89 landings were canceled. Further deletions are to be expected. Already on Monday there were warning strikes at the airports in Düsseldorf, Berlin, Bremen, Hanover and Leipzig. Along with Hamburg, the airports in Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden are to be on strike on Tuesday.
Nationwide wage conflict
The warning strikes are part of the wage conflict between ver.di and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS). The union is negotiating with the employers’ association about a new collective agreement for around 25,000 security forces nationwide. Three rounds of negotiations had so far remained unsuccessful. Both sides want to meet on March 16th and 17th in Berlin for further negotiations.
