One of Hamburg’s most used entrances will be closed for two and a half years. From Monday you cannot drive directly on the A7 towards Hanover in Bahrenfeld. Instead, an unusual bypass was created.
From the air it looks like a giant slalom course, on the ground it should be an efficient transition to the Othmarschen driveway. Anyone entering the motorway in Bahrenfeld from the Elbtunnel will first use a new one-way street parallel to the A7. After the first loop you cross the highway over a temporary bridge, and then a second loop passes the UCI cinema. If you then turn two more times, you will end up on the Othmarschen driveway.
Autobahn GmbH hopes to receive a positive response
Traffic coordinator Karina Fischer from Autobahn GmbH Nord recommends: “The temporary solution has been developed very effectively. We hope that road users will accept it and stop looking for any hidden routes through the local streets.” She goes on to insist that we should trust the traffic planners However, the one-way street is narrow and the speed limit is 40. Traffic lights also threaten traffic jams on the new driveway.
Traffic coordinator Karina Fischer hopes the bypass will be used.
A driveway for residents to their underground car park
For the residents of Jürgen-Töpfer-Straße, the traffic route has the disadvantage of having to make a long journey to their underground car park. Anyone traveling by bike or on foot will find wide paths reinforced with barriers. The bypass will be needed from next Monday because the A7 in Altona is getting a soundproof tunnel.
